- NO SMOKING signs posted.
- Warning tags and signs posted.
- Required protective clothing, safety shoes, and hardhat.
- Required eye protection available as needed.
- Required respiratory protection available as needed.
- Buddy system setup if warranted.
- Safety belts, harnesses, and tending lines on hand as required.
- Toxic material control as needed.
- Burn hazards (chemical, hot pipes, other).
- Falling objects.
- Moving objects, cranes, and other traffic considered.
- Locations of safety showers and eye baths.
- Location of fire alarm station.
- Fire extinguishers and fire blankets on hand as required.
- Location of nearest telephone.
- Barricades as necessary.
- Electrical hazards in vicinity taken into account.
- Working electrical equipment grounded.
- Spark proof tools as required.
- Flammability or flashpoints of painting materials and nearby stowed materials.
- Safety and fire permits secured.
- Gas Free Engineers approval obtained.
- Condition of ladders and scaffolding checked.
- Safe footing provided for personnel.
- Adequate ventilation.
- Fire retardant masking paper.
- The written safety precautions for abrasive blasting, hydro-blasting, power tools, and pneumatic tools in accordance with paragraphs 6312.8.1 through 6312.8.6.
- Each worker shall be required to review and be familiar with potential health hazards and precautions for the materials involved in each operation. The DOD Hazardous Material Information System (HMIS), and Ships Hazardous Material List (SHML) provide guidance in this regard.
