Modified Alkyd Coatings

Modified Alkyd Coatings

Modified Alkyd coatings are formulated in a similar manor to traditional alkyds. They are more versatile and can be thinned with water to reduce their viscosity. The type of modifier used will determine the characteristics for each alkyd. Alkyds using the modifier, phenolic resin, will have good resistance to water, corrosion and will have better adhesion. Monobasic acids will increase the movement and flexibility in the coating and maleic anydride will increase resistance to water, reduce cure time and improve the color quality.
