Naval Ships' Technical Manual (NSTM) |

The NSTM provides technical information for supervision, operation and maintenance of U.S. Navy ships and submarines.
Shipboard topics such as Preservation of Ships in Service-General (Chapter 631), Cathodic Protection (Chapter 633) and Deck Coverings (Chapter 634) are included.
NSTMs are available ONLY to government employees and government contractors possessing a PKI certificate (CAC card).
How to Obtain NSTMs:
- You must be a government employee or a government contractor.
- You must possess a PKI certificate (CAC Card).
- Log on to the Technical Data Management Information System (TDMIS)
- Request a TDMIS account via the TDMIS site or by contacting the help desk at 805-228-0669 or DSN: 296-0669 between the hours of 8 am – 4 pm Pacific Time.
- The NSDSA website also contains registration information and technical manual viewing instructions. You must request view capability for TDMIS.

The Standard Specification for Ship Repair and Alteration Committee (SSRAC) is responsible for providing technically and
contractually sound standards for the U.S. Navy's ship repair and alteration community. SSRACs website
The applicable NAVSEA Standard Item for naval ship cleaning and painting requirements is Standard Item 009-32.
It contains cleanliness, surface preparation, coating application requirements, and system application instructions for each product.

NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 (Cleaning and Painting Requirements) now applies to both surface ship and submarine preservation. See NAVSEA's letter re: Guidance for Submarine Preservation and the Use of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 for details.

Only ASTM F718 datasheets posted on this site and stamped NAVSEA APPROVED are allowed for Navy preservation projects in critical coated areas. Unstamped vendor
F718 datasheets are not allowed (regardless of listed revision number on the F718). The F718s posted on this site have been reviewed by NAVSEA to ensure conformance
to the relevant Navy specifications and documents. Other variations are not allowed.
NAVSEA's approval covers only the application process for the material.
The approval does not denote the material as a qualified product, nor does it constitute an approval for purchase/procurement of the material. For products on the Qualified Products List (QPL) for any particular MILSPEC, please refer to http://assist.daps.dla.mil/quicksearch/. F718s for products on the NAVSEA Advanced Coatings Message are located in the same section as that message.
